Passages Camps - 3D Spread Eye Views of Bender Pole Sculptures, Summer 2004

On this page are some pairs of pictures of the sculptures taken from slighly different places. They are arranged so that if you view them spread-eyed, looking at the left picture with the left eye and vice-versa you may get a 3D view. I find I cannot do this on these pictures but find viewing cross-eyed quite easy.

Beware of headaches, eyestrain and nausea while trying to do the following:

The first thing is an object to practise on:

  • spread your eyes so that eyerything becomes double - the pairs become fours - though this is quite difficult to see
  • try to merge the centre objects so that there are now threes
  • the centre object(s) is/are the one(s) we are interested in (try to ignore the others) gaze in a relaxed way at the centre object for a while and you will hopefully see a 3D effect
  • on the practise object, the top half should have the centre coming towards you, and the bottom half should have the centre going away from you; if it is the other way round then you have crossed your eyes instead spreading them and you may be better off with the other page giving the cross-eye view

The pairs of photos were taken by simply moving the camera horizontally between shots by guesswork, so the results are quite varied. You may need to wobble your head a bit while trying to get them to merge.
